Block off PAIR valve before AutoTune

Re: Block off PAIR valve before AutoTune
The IAP and TPS work hand in hand under 10% throttle,so if you have diff target values in each of these parts of the maps it could be causing interference as well

Re: Block off PAIR valve before AutoTune
Yes that should be the correct hose to block. The air from the pair valve is bled directly into the exhaust port in the cylinder head.

Re: Block off PAIR valve before AutoTune
All done, 30mm of dowel and a hose clamp and is all done. Exactly what I did, took 15 minutes. I wanted to double check if I blocked off the right hose. It's under the left side (sitting on the bike) of the air box and leads to the PAIR assembly which bolts on the valve cover?? I looked at a few forums and it looks exactly like that in the pictures however the hose connects to the right side of the air box. On my bike - 2014 ZX14r, the hose on the right side of the airbox leads to a solenoid and then to the fuel rail or throttle body. I want to make sure I haven't blocked off something important like the PCV hose. And out of curiosity how does the air get directed into the exhaust? The hose looks like it disappears into the top of the head.

Re: Block off PAIR valve before AutoTune
FYI Dynosaur note (in their installation instructions for their O2 "optimiser") that for a G4 (2011-2014) ZX-10R that closed loop is only active in 5th and 6th gears and in a certain rev range: http://i871.photobucket.com/albums/ab272/arcarc-ninja/o2optimizerinstructions2_zpsfa3c4083.png YMMV and FWIW. A.

Re: Block off PAIR valve before AutoTune
I would not recommend anyone to autotune IAP other than for fuel economy. To block the PAIR I consider a must when the exhaust/cat is removed for a less restrictive system, mostly to get rid of the terrible noise it makes when decellerating. :) The stock IAP maps are quite rich as it is best for starting/smoth idle. When PAIR/cat/stock O2(logic) is in place the ECU will give the cat optimum condition by sending a fairly rich mixture to combust(in the engine) and tune the cat with sending extra oxygen thru PAIR to make the fuel burn completely (AFR 14.7). This is how all modern engines (cars/motorcycles) work (car engines for a few decades now). The reason why Justin, Healtech, Dynojet... all tuning software supplier tells you to block of the PAIR is that it is impossible to auto/manually tune the IAP when PAIR functionality is active. But if you let the ECU handle the IAP ("closed loop") it will be the better option for easy (good) fuel economy I think. (This from a guy who have sucessfully auto/manually tuned IAP on his B-King to obtain very good fuel economy).

Re: Block off PAIR valve before AutoTune
Yes agreed, be good to see what the logged data was and see if there is improvements to be made.

Re: Block off PAIR valve before AutoTune
just to chime in on the IAP maps... i auto tuned them to the stock set AFR targets and my bike would not idle anymore and was hard to start .. i then left the IAP maps stock and ignored them in the auto tune and the idle-2000 rpms felt much better In this case there is probably something interesting to learn. Could you publish the logged AFR values collected while running the stock IAP map? In this way we can see what the engine expects and consider as good AFR target.

Re: Block off PAIR valve before AutoTune
Yes you can tune both IAP and TPS maps with the Log Box Pro :)

Re: Block off PAIR valve before AutoTune
The PAIR valve is active at partial throttle opening, so it will be most evident in the IAP map and in the lower TPS positions in the TPS map. Justin, Does the Logbox Pro make adjustments for the IAP map(s) as well? I guess I assumed that it only made changes to the main fuel maps.

Re: Block off PAIR valve before AutoTune
If you have done slip ons it will also be the most effective way of eliminating 98% of your exhaust snap crackle and burble. On the ZX14R it is a simple 1 hose block off. Some guys loose the whole setup for a weight reduction and fit blanking plates to the heads or inlets.. But one hose is usually all it takes. Turning off the electronic valve itself on my bike would be more enjoyable.. ;) ;)

Re: Block off PAIR valve before AutoTune
Where will it show a lean afr?

Block off PAIR valve before AutoTune
Before you log data and use the Woolich Racing AutoTune with the Log Box Pro (Mitsubishi) you should block off the PAIR valve system on your bike. The PAIR valve system works by allowing air into the exhaust under certain conditions which burns off any excess fuel in the exhaust, this will give you an artificially lean AFR reading so it should be disabled.
