Kawasaki Harness Type 5 and Extension Harness Type 5

The Kawasaki On-Bike Harness Type 5 (KH5) is used on the following models:

  • 2006-2007 ZX10R
  • 2006-2007 ZX10R KRT Race Kit ECU
  • 2006-2011 ZX14 / ZZR1400
Kawasaki On-Bike Harness Type 5 (KH5) - the two black 4-pin plugs connect to diagnostic plugs on the bike

These motorcycles typically have two 4-pin Kawasaki Diagnostic System (KDS) plugs which are both needed to install the KH5 onto the bike a shown above.

Some of these models only have one 4-pin diagnostic plug on the bike, in this case a second harness is needed in addition to the KH5.  The additional harness is the Kawasaki Extension Harness Type 5 (KEH5), this harness connects to one of the diagnostic plugs on the KH5 and the two wires are inserted into the ECU connector plugs on the bike's main harness as described below.

The information contained in this article will help you determine whether you only need the Kawasaki Harness Type 5 (KH5) for your bike or whether you also need the Kawasaki Extension Harness Type 5 (KEH5).

The KH5 harness has two plugs as shown above, during the installation these must be connected to two different 4-pin KDS plugs.

The first 4-pin KDS plug is usually found under the seat and can be identified by the wire colors listed below.  This plug must be connected to the KH5 plug with the red, black and white wires:

  • Brown with white tracer
  • Black with yellow tracer
  • Pink or dark green
  • Light green with black tracer

The first KDS plug should look like one of the following images:

The second 4-pin KDS plug is usually found either under the seat towards the rear of the bike or under the fuel tank on the frame rail on some models.  This plug must be connected to the KH5 plug with the green and yellow wires:

  • Brown with white tracer
  • Black with yellow tracer
  • Red with yellow tracer
  • Light green

The second KDS plug should look like this:

If the second KDS plug is not available on your bike then you will need the 2-wire Kawasaki Extension Harness Type 5 (KEH5).  The black 4-pin plug of the KEH5 must be connected to the matching plug on the KH5 with the green and yellow wires as shown below.

The green and yellow wires of the extension harness KEH5 need to be connected to the ECU plugs of the bike's main harness as per the instructions for the optional KEH5.  Please note that this user guide is only available for users who have purchased a bin file key for one of these models.
